Carmelitas

Sweet Treats

My sweet tooth is out of control. I'm pretty sure I was born eating a cookie. My mom's candy obsession + my dad's dark chocolate addiction = genetic predisposition to LOVE DESSERT. I am going to start out with a bang: Carmelitas. If you don't know what a carmelita is, imagine a caramel filled chocolate bar having a threesome with two buttery and delicious oatmeal cookies. Then, all three having a baby named Carmelita.
Ingredients:
  • 32 caramel squares (unwrapped)
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (for your ass)
  • 3/4 cup of butter, melted (for your love-handles)
  • 3/4 cup of brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
Recipe:
-Add caramels and heavy cream to a sauce pan over low heat. Stir together until blended and smooth. Set aside.
-In a separate bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, flour, oats, and baking soda. Mix. Press half of this mixture into the bottom of an 8x8 inch pan. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes.
-Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the oatmeal crust.
-Pour the melted caramel/cream sauce over the chocolate chips.
-Crumble the remaining half of the oatmeal mixture over the caramel.
-Bake again at 350 for 15-20 minutes until the edges are lightly brown.
-Cool before cutting (maybe even a little time in the fridge). STUFF YOUR FACE!
***Note, do NOT serve cold. Cooling down the carmelitas simply avoids scorching your mouth with the lava hot caramel.
Tips:
This recipe can be made healthier (with whole wheat flour and apple sauce)...but don't do it.
  • Eat a few and give the rest away to avoid a carmelita coma.
