Specialty Sweet Shops: NYC

Big Apple Bites

I have a raging sweet tooth. If you haven't figured this out by now, then you don't actually read my blog posts. The great thing about New York City is there is a store for everything. You want soap? There's a special store for that. You want loose leaf tea? There's a special store for that too. So, when I'm craving a certain sweet treat, I don't have to look hard to find the perfect spot. In this post, you'll find specialty sweet shops for those days you're craving anything from customizable oatmeal to a flawless French macaron...

1) Doughnut Plant
This sweet shop is for that day you feel like being a fatty. It's called Doughnut Plant, so what do you expect? I'm not a huge doughnut fan, but I'm not going to lie, I wholeheartedly enjoyed these...
379 Grand St. and 220 West 23rd St.

As the name suggests, this shop pumps out doughnuts like there's no obesity epidemic. If you're going to make your way to Doughnut Plant, at least walk there...

2) Milk & Cookies
19 Commerce St.

Milk & Cookies Bakery is hard to "stumble on" considering it is hidden on a tiny street in the West Village. Those lucky enough to know it exists can vouch for the delicious treats baked in this kitchen...cookies, ice cream sandwiches, brownies, bars, and cookie mixes all served with a tall glass of milk. You can even design your own cookie! Salted Oat Surprise cookie, Chocolate Chip cookie, and White Chocolate Hazelnut brownie are a few of my favorites.

3) OatMeals
OatMeals, located in Greenwich Village, is truly one of a kind...proving that oatmeal is anything but old-fashioned. With savory and sweet oatmeal combinations, in addition to oatmeal-based pastries and sandwiches, there is something for everyone.
120 West 3rd St.

And here are a few notable flavors, some for a healthy mood and some for an indulgent mood...
In the healthy category.

And the not-so-healthy category.

4) The Chobani Bar
Chobani SoHo falls in the same category as OatMeals: breakfast food made more versatile. Again, you can customize your Chobani yogurt bowl to be of the sweet or savory variety.
150 Prince St.

I'll let the following images do the talking:

5) La Maison du Macaron
When it comes to French macarons, I'm a big fan. It's hard to come close to the macarons I devoured in Biarritz, France last summer, but La Maison du Macaron comes close. Scoring a 28 out of 30 on Zagat is hard to do...giving you more reasons to visit this sweet shop.
132 West 23rd St.
One block down from Doughnut Plant...convenient or dangerous?

The End. (unfortunately)
